Andrew Linham

Educator

Andrew has ten years experience running his own specialist music education courses. He has been 'Musician in Residence' at Ardleigh Green Junior School since 2013 and within this role has developed 'Lyricland'; a music education course for KS2 to explore music in a practical and exciting way. He has also written a vast collection of original songs for KS1 and KS2 exploring the elements of music through singing. His online presence has grown greatly through 2020 with a thriving Youtube Channel with videos exploring music education developing LyricLand with online activities for all.

He has worked with the Royal Ballet School since 2016 on the Primary Steps programme and he is a mentor for the Havering Academy Of Leadership. He also runs much of the Jazz Education provision at the Havering Music School Saturday School, alongside the Junior Choir and the Stage Band. In 2019 as part of the HMS Super Saturday programme he premiered a new large scale work entitled 'Col-Large' involving the National Youth Jazz Orchestra alongside students from three London boroughs and community music organisations forming a giant choir and orchestra that he conducted! He is also currently working with the Essex Music Development Agency developing jazz outreach work in Essex.

Andrew's annual work for the Havering Junior Music Festival see him regularly lead various 150 strong choirs each comprised of 6-9 different schools across a week in June. The 2020 Festival was scheduled to feature a collection of his original songs humourously entitled 'Songs In The Key Of Linham' which has currently been postponed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Past roles include Head of Music in Goodrington School (2012-2019) and within this role he received an 'Outstanding' from Ofsted.

Andrew has also privately taught saxophone, clarinet, piano ABRSM Theory and Jazz Theory with private students with a pass rate of 100% for ABRSM examinations with most students receiving merits or distinctions.

Andrew studied BA Jazz Saxophone at Leeds College of Music and has an MA in Jazz Performance from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
